The GITEX Tech Week Robotics Industry Update
01-Jun-2016With the Worldwide robotics industry predicted to total US $151.7 billion by 2020, worldwide annual robotics shipments are now set to increase from 8.8 million units to 61.4 million over the next 4 years.
All of these figures are pointing the worldwide robotics industry reaching a tipping point at GITEX Technology Week 2016, with 20,440 senior decision makers attending GITEX 2015 to find robotics technology for their business and 2,500 CXOs alone reaching out to robotics manufacturers and suppliers.
So ahead of what’s become a leading platform for the robotics industry to do business, GITEX Technology Week 2016 has put together the below run down of the latest industry news and developments across the worldwide robotics industry:
TOURISM

With more than 24,000 service robots for professional industries being sold in 2014, Aloft Hotels were ready to get in on the action when it unveiled A.L.O, the hotel brand’s first Botlr (robotic butler). The new robotic team member made his debut at Aloft Cupertino, making Aloft the first major hotel brand to hire a robot for both front and back of house duties. In its role A.L.O will be on call as a robotic operative where it will be assisting the hotel in delivering amenities to guest rooms which will not only free up time for other staff but will enhance the hotel’s current tech-forward offerings.
AGRICULTURE

The agricultural robotics market is set to grow from a reported $817mn in 2013 to an expected $16.3bn by 2020. This growth and innovation is typified by Blue River Technology in California, USA which has developed a robot that can eliminate weeds without adding herbicideas to food crops, genetically modifying the seeds or resorting to manual removal. Blue River’s smart machines are able to sense each individual plant, instantly determine its health, structure and needs, and precisely apply the right amount of care - all in real time, at tractor speed.
OIL & GAS

With the global market for robots in the oil and gas industry set to grow at a CAGR of 20.46% between 2014-2019, oil and gas companies are now on the lookout for innovations which could unlock new revenues and cut costs across the industry. One such innovation is the fully automated Echo Voyager submersible from Boeing, which can spend six months at a time exploring the deep with a 7,500-mile range and no necessary support ship. Boeing says Voyager can help with oil and gas exploration, inspect underwater infrastructure, take water samples and create bathymetric maps of the ocean floor.
TRAVEL

As the global sales of service robot is set to increase to approximately 35 million units by 2018, Hilton Worldwide has taken its first robotic step and announced a pilot project for its first robot concierge. “Connie”, the first robot concierge for the hospitality industry, will draw on domain knowledge to provide guests with information on local tourist attractions, dining recommendations, hotel features and amenities.
